The aim of the “ECOeDNA” Project is to develop a new research infrastructure that will utilize innovative molecular technologies for the analysis of environmental DNA (eDNA), in terms of recording and monitoring the dynamics and diversity of local fisheries and the marine microbiome.
The ECOeDNA project (Application of eDNA technology for monitoring fish stocks and genetic resources of the aquatic environment of the Thracian Sea as a tool for sustainable management) has been included in PRIORITY AXIS 3: “RESEARCH / IMPLEMENTATION” of the Financial Program “NATURAL ENVIRONMENT & INNOVATIVE ACTIONS 2023”, with Funding from the Green Fund, with a budget of 200,000.00 euros and scientifically responsible is Assistant Professor P. Kolovos and beneficiary Democritus University of Thrace
The expected benefits and exploitation of the results of “ECOeDNA” are:
The project team consists of faculty members of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (DMBG) of Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH), researchers and external collaborators. The composition of the project team guarantees a holistic approach to address the scientific question and is necessary for the successful implementation of the project. The project team consists of faculty members with complementary fields of knowledge and extensive research experience. The collaboration between the project team members promotes interdisciplinarity and ensures the successful completion of the project.
